Evolve is a simple and minimal light theme for Gnome. The theme is compatible with the latest GTK 3.2 and uses the Adwaita engine. It also includes a GTK 2.0 theme using Murrine engine.

---

Ubuntu users can install Evolve from our themes PPA using the following commands,

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:satyajit-happy/themes
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install evolve-gtk-theme

---

Installation Instructions for other distros:

Extract the zip file. Then extract the tar.gz file to the themes directory i.e. "~/.themes/" or "/usr/share/themes/"

Use Gnome Tweak tool to choose the themes, or run the following commands in Terminal,

gconftool-2 -s --type string /apps/metacity/general/theme "Evolve"

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Evolve"

Is this theme compatible with GTK 3.4? If not, will it be updated?

It's not compatible with 3.4 yet. But I'll try to update.

I think you are using Ubuntu 12.04. It's in beta, so I will wait till the stable version has been released.

It's the best GTK3 theme, but with gtk3.3 (Ubuntu 12.04 beta or Fedora 17 alpha) we have problems:

I hope that somebody can fix it, because the default Adwaita theme is ugly and unusable.

The other problem is with U12.04, gnome control center has white blocks around icon groups.

Fedora 17 is terrible slow, Debian killed my wireless with wrong firmware patch.
BTW, which is your preferred distribution?

I use both Ubuntu and Fedora :)
And about the theme support, once Fedora 17 or Ubuntu 12.04 becomes stable, I'll work on it.

why does your theme provide dark text color, but all other themes I tried in ubuntu 12.04 do have white text?

Note that these themes were working properly before, but after I updated the build, their text colors went weird. they seemed to have fixed it partly, but there is still a problem.

I want to have dark text color for the themes. but they all have white text instead... except yours.. so I was hoping to find a solution here...

Also, there is an issue with the buttons in the toolbar. If I hover over them, they "jump", get one pixel larger...

Sorry, but I'm still on Ubuntu 11.10. So I cannot test. I don't have any such problems. May be it is related to the Unico theme engine. May be since Evolve does not use Unico, it doesn't have the problem. And about the toolbar buttons, I don't notice any issue. Will check anyways.

A variant of this theme with dark bars, as Ambiance for example, would be great!
